On the 7th instant we ventured to address to Your

Excellency a telegram reading:

"In interest many Lancashire manufacturers and

ourselves respectfully pray transfer appointment

Wicking as liquidator Sander Wieler and Company

to James Backhouse, expert Lancashire goods;

otherwise fear heavy loss British interests".

Having received from our friends, the Hongkong

& Shanghai Banking Corporation, London, a communication on the

above matter (received by them from Hongkong through the Colonial

Office), we wrote to them that we had learnt of Messrs. Wicking's

appointment as liquidators of the firm of Sander, Wieler & Co.

With Your Excellency's permission, we beg to quote from our

letter to the Bank:-

The sale of Manchester and Bradford Piece Gooda

(Sander Wieler & Co's principal trade) should, in order to

prevent serious loss, be undertaken by people having a

thorough practical knowledge of this business, and, accord-

ing to our information, the firm of Messrs. Ticking cannot
